NFL BREAKING: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Lions Agree on $120M Contract to Be Highest-Paid WR
Amon-Ra St. Brown, one of the NFL’s top wide receivers, has been rewarded by the Detroit Lions with a four-year, $120 million contract deal that includes a $77 million guarantee, according to an NFL Network report on Wednesday by Ian Rapoport.
According to Rapoport, the agreement makes St. Brown the highest-paid wide receiver in the National Football League. It surpasses the guaranteed money in both the contracts of Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp and Miami Dolphins standout Tyreek Hill, and it matches their yearly average.
The Lions contacted with St. Brown’s agents during the NFL Scouting Combine and intended to sign him to an extension, according to a report by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on February 29. The two parties were “close” to reaching an agreement that would pay him $26-28 million a season, according to a March 5 report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic. St. Brown, who was scheduled to earn $3.3 million in 2024, was about to enter the last year of his rookie deal.
While waiting on his new contract, St. Brown did not participate in Detroit’s optional exercises on the first day of the summer. His deal comes after DeVonta Smith, a fellow 2021 draft classmate, signed a three-year, $75 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, with $51 million guaranteed. It was anticipated that Smith’s contract would set the stage for St. Brown’s, but the Lions went above and beyond by giving him the highest-paying receiver position.
