Three way too early Buffalo Sabres forecasts for 2024–2025

Even if it’s just June, if you’re the Buffalo Sabres, it’s never too early to start planning for the upcoming season. It’s time to move on following a dismal 2023–2024 season. October is four months away, so let’s talk about next year now.

Let’s get crazy even if free agency and the draft haven’t happened yet! I’ll make three predictions for the team’s upcoming season in this piece. I received a few predictions, whether they were about a particular player or the company as a whole. I’ll shut up now; let me share my predictions!

No one can deny that Dylan Cozens, a forward for the Sabres, had a regression-filled year. Even while he wasn’t the only player to regress, his season-long numbers raised some red flags. Cozens finished with a -4 record in 79 games played, 18 goals, and 29 assists for 47 points.

Cozens, though, was outstanding at the IIHF World Championships. It did not assist Buffalo, but it was encouraging to see the Whitehorse Workhorse win the event. I believe Dylan responds strongly in the upcoming season, and I project him to score 40 goals.

Though it was a disappointing season for him, Cozens will rediscover his scoring touch under new head coach Lindy Ruff. He scored 31 goals in the 2022–2023 campaign, earning himself a contract extension that was well-earned. He had defensive issues as well, but in 2024–2025, I think he will have a breakthrough year.

Dylan is among the team’s most responsible players, thus it’s feasible that he’ll serve as an alternate captain the next campaign. He is an important member of a squad looking to advance, so perhaps he can find his game next season.
