“That must end!” The GM and coach of the Fever have had enough of Caitlin Clark’s harsh statements directed at Christie Sides.
She is the defending National Player of the Year and the first choice in the 2024 WNBA draft.
Together with the Fever, she is pushing teams into larger arenas, breaking TV records, and selling
out rival venues. She becomes a target because of everything.
When Clark made the move to the WNBA, she anticipated a more physical game. However, Clark has
occasionally been the target of what may have been egregious fouls.
One particularly noteworthy incident from Indiana’s victory against Chicago on Saturday is the
conversation that broke out between Sky guard Chennedy Carter and Clark after Clark grabbed a
rebound over Carter on a Fever possession. Carter’s second possession ended with a midrange
basket, but before she could get a chance to guard Clark, she shoulder-checked the rookie for the
Fever to the ground.
Clark said, “I wasn’t expecting that.” However, it simply says, ‘Respond, settle down, and let your
play speak for itself.'” It is what it is, really.
Players for the Fever requested a review, but Carter did not get a technical or egregious foul. She was
called for a common foul for going away from the ball, which gave the Fever and possession one free
throw. After Clark’s free throw, the Fever won 71-70, a one-point victory.
“It’s what it is,” stated Clark. “I think I’ve reached the stage where I simply accept it—just let them
strike you, take it for what it is, get them out of your thoughts, and know that it will happen. I believe
that at this stage, I am aware that I will make a few hard shots per game. I’m trying not to let it upset
me, and that’s the situation.
“… Usually it’s the second person that gets caught if you retaliate or something,” she stated. “So I’m
just trying to stay in the game, and focus on my team, and focus on what’s important.”
