It’s just a game, not a rivalry” Caitlin Clark on Indiana vs Chicago Sky

For the third time this season, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will take against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Sunday. Indiana is 2-0 against Chicago this season, and a victory on Sunday would extend their winning run to five games overall.

As they prepared for this game, Clark played down the rivalry, telling reporters, “I’m quite confident that only you guys see this as a rivalry. To us, it seems like just another basketball game… If it aids in the progression of the game, then that is fantastic. That’s how things ought to be. It might be discussed by people.”

Although Clark isn’t enamored with the rivalry, she would like to relocate this game to the Chicago Bulls’ home arena, much as Indiana’s most recent matchup was moved to an NBA venue to meet demand for tickets.

“I saw the ticket prices, I guess the only thing is I’m surprised we’re not playing at the United Center,” Clark stated. “I felt that would have been fantastic for the game and for all Chicago supporters of women’s basketball. Perhaps there is some kind of dispute that I am unaware of. We’re excited, even if that’s obviously a little beyond my pay grade. Every game, one by one.”

Caitlin Clark inquired about Sunday’s rivalry matchup with Chicago:

“I’m rather certain that only you (the media) see this as a competition. It’s simply a basketball game to us. That’s the reality. Without a doubt, if it would advance the game.”

Clark and the Fever have been selling out NBA arenas, and almost certainly would have packed United Center, but it seems there are no plans for the WNBA to make that change.
