Paul Finebaum Names Unexpected SEC Team That Might ‘Pull It Off’ This Year

Since Josh Heupel took over as head coach in Knoxville, Tennessee, things have been going quite

well. Heupel, who will begin his fourth year, has guided the Volunteers back into the running the

past two years.

With a 20-6 record over this time, Tennessee is feeling confident as they approach the 2024

campaign. Nico Iamaleava, a redshirt freshman quarterback who was regarded as the top overall

recruit in the 2023 class, is a big reason for this confidence.

Paul Finebaum expressed his admiration for Tennessee in 2024 to Berry Tramel of the Tulsa

World, saying he feels the Volunteers are not getting enough recognition.

“I like a lot, and I think they’re one that probably aren’t getting a lot of love but could pull it off,”

Finebaum stated. “I think that they have the opportunity with Alabama at home to, not so much

steal that game since they won it two years ago, but that could be a big game.”

Tennessee might qualify for the College Football Playoffs in 2024, according to Paul Finebaum. In

addition, he said he would be interested in seeing Tennessee face the Oklahoma Sooners, mostly

because Heupel would be going up against the club he played for when he won a national title.

That matchup may be vital for both teams in their chase to qualify for the CFP at the conclusion of

the season and spark national curiosity.
