Why AC Milan could give up on trying to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham

AC Milan are trying to find an upgrade for

Davide Calabria at the right back position this

summer, as one of their priorities is changing

the face of a defense that struggled mightily in

the 2023/24 season. Milan wants to close the 19-

point deficit with their main rivals, Inter Milan,

at the top of the Serie A standings. With Alvaro

Abraham in their sights, they are well-positioned

at striker. Paulo Fonseca appears to be able to

steer clear of overspending at right back, despite

Milan’s intense summertime pursuit of both

centers and right backs. At right defense, Kalulu

still needs to establish himself as a starter for

remember his lackluster performances in that

position. Nevertheless, given that Emerson

would cost 20 million euros, many Milan

supporters will question whether he is really a

better player than Kalulu or Calabria. He looks

like a con man modeled after Daniel Levy.

It also raises the question of why Milan and

Fonseca aren’t after his former Lille gem Tiago

Santos, who should, in theory, be one of the most

in-demand young right backs on the transfer

market.
