Way-too-early 2025 LSU baseball lineup, starting rotation and bullpen projections
With the exception of four high school signees
and one incoming transfer, Luke Hayden, a right-
handed pitcher from Indiana State, the Tigers
had nine players selected in the draft. Despite the
possibility of losing key players to professional
baseball, such as high school signees Kale
Fountain and Boston Bateman, right-hander
Fidel Ulloa, and left-hander Griffin Herring, LSU
had a strong draft this year. The Tigers manage
d to keep a number of players out of MLB’s
clutches. William Schmidt, Cade Arrambide, and
Derek Curiel, three high school signees who
turned down the opportunity to play
professional football right away, joined Josh
Pearson, Michael Braswell, and Jared Jones in
returning to LSU for another season with fall
baseball starting in a few months, here’s an early
look at what LSU’s potential starting lineup and
rotation could look like for the 2025 season.
Order of Battle.
1. Senior SS Michael Braswell
2. Steven Milam, sophomore 2B
3. Daniel Dickinson, Jr., third base
4. 1B (Jr.) Jared Jones
5. RF (So.) Ashton Larson
6. Senior DH Luis Hernandez
7. Josh Pearson, Senior LF
8. Charles Priester, Jr.
9. Jake Brown, Sophomore CF Lineup
Breakdown: LSU’s positional player group in
2025 will have plenty of depth and versatility.
The Tigers have a strong balance of left-handed
and right-handed hitters. Their outfield is as
deep as its been since coach Jay Johnson took
over the program. Braswell and Jones returning
has turned the infield from a potential weakness
into a strength. In contrast to 2024, a large
number of starters from that club return. In
2025, six players who started in the Chapel Hill
regional will return. Dickinson, Hernandez, and
Priester are the new starters. Dickinson, a
transfer from Utah Valley State, trained with
Team USA for a portion of the previous summer.
Hernandez hit 23 home runs during his previous
season at Indiana State. Priester is the only
seasoned catcher who works full-time and
transfers to LSU from junior college
Stanfield, Yamin, Beck and Frey could easily start
depending on the matchup. For example, if
Brown is on the mound, Stanfield is a natural
replacement in center field.
Yamin posted a 1.037 on-base plus slugging
percentage last season as Dayton’s first baseman.
Stanfield was Auburn’s starting center fielder in
2024 and has played well in the Cape Cod
Baseball League. Beck broke out with 18 homers
at Incarnate Word.
