R I P : Former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Jacoby Jones dead at 40

The Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Texans, and the NFL all released comments on Sunday confirming the death of

Jacoby Jones, who scored two touchdowns for the team in Super Bowl XLVII, at the age of 40.

According to CNN, the Texans, where Jones spent five NFL seasons, were notified of the news on Sunday morning by

Jones’ family.The cause of death is not known to the public.

The Baltimore Ravens organization released a statement saying, “We are completely heartbroken to learn about the

passing of Jacoby Jones.” “Jacoby possessed a special ability to relate to everyone he came into contact with. His

unique presence, infused with joy, love, and charisma, could illuminate any space and lift any depressing mood.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jacoby Jones,” the Texans said in a statement. During this

Jones played with the Texans, Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the San Diego Chargers, who are become the Los

Angeles Chargers, throughout his nine-year NFL career.

In a social media message, the NFL stated, “The NFL is heartbroken to hear of the passing of Super Bowl champion

Jacoby Jones.” “We are praying for his family and loved ones.”The 2012 postseason was one of his greatest

professional career moments.Late in the fourth quarter of the AFC Divisional Round, Jones pulled off the “Mile High

70-yard touchdown pass that sent the game into overtime.

Then in Super Bowl XLVII, Jones hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass and had a 108-yard kickoff return for a

touchdown – still the longest play in Super Bowl history – as the Ravens bested the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 to win

the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Jones remains the only player to have a receiving touchdown and kickoff return

touchdown in the same Super Bowl.

On X, the platform that was once known as Twitter, former Ravens teammate Ray Lewis wrote, “My brother, you will
truly be missed.” The memories and the effort you put in, both on and off the football field, are insurmountable. You

Jones’s Texans teammate JJ Watt wrote on social media, saying, “Jacoby was one of the most enjoyable teammates

and people I’ve ever been around.” He never stopped smiling and dancing, and his smile never went away. Too soon,
