Rangers ‘set to sign’ Eredivisie defender following Connor Goldson departure
According to reports, Rangers and FC Twente
captain Robin Propper have reached an
agreement. After completing the permanent
signings of Liam Kelly, Clinton Nsiala, Jefte,
Mohamed Diomande, Hamza Igamane, and
Vaclav Cerny, the Gers made a lot of changes to
their roster over the summer. Oscar Cortes has
also agreed to a new one-year loan agreement
with Lens, which includes a buyout clause at the
conclusion of the 2024–2025 season. Rangers
have welcomed a number of new players, but
they have also bid farewell to a number of
players, including Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic,
Kemar Roofe, Jon McLaughlin, and Sam
Lammers. The most recent player to depart from
Ibrox is defender Connor Goldson, who
completed a permanent transfer to the Cypriot
team Aris Limassol.
Rangers on verge of signing Propper
Following Goldson’s departure, Rangers moved
swiftly to sign an Eredivisie captain to strengthen
their defensive options. Sky Sports News reports
that the Scottish Premiership team and Twente
have reached an agreement to sign Propper.
Before being introduced as the newest member
of Philippe Clement’s team, the Dutch defender
must now go through a medical examination.
Propper should be ready to sign in time for
Saturday’s Scottish Premiership opening at
Tynecastle against Hearts, if all goes as planned.
Propper set for new adventure
The 30-year-old will go on his first excursion
outside of the Netherlands, where he has worked
his entire career. The central defender spent four
years with Heracles Almelo after starting his
career at De Graafschap. Propper has played in
115 competitive games since moving to Twente
in 2021, scoring 11 goals in his three years there.
Propper will bring significant experience to the
Rangers defence ahead of the 2024–25 campaign
after making 349 appearances in first-team
games throughout his career.
