A Rangers player is in limbo while negotiations to transfer this week are anticipated.
Rangers fans will be desperate to see more
signings arrive in the final month of the window
but some players need to go too.
If Rangers are going to win the Premiership title
this season, then the push for top spot hasn’t
exactly started in style. Saturday’s draw with
Heart of Midlothian was fairly pedestrian stuff;
plenty of the ball but no attacking threat.
Rangers could only muster a draw and the
performance was more of the same from the end
of last season. This Rangers side doesn’t exactly
look like rampaging to the title and fans are still
waiting for a clearer brand of football under
Philippe Clement. Rangers may need to strike a
number of deals, both in and out, before the
transfer window slams shut later this month.
Jose Cifuentes transfer latest
When he arrived at Ibrox last summer, Cifuentes
was surrounded by a lot of optimism. The
Ecuadorian international eventually made it to
Glasgow following a drawn-out transfer drama,
having proven his mettle in Major League Soccer
with LAFC. Only brief glimpses of Cifuentes’
potential were seen prior to his January loan
move to the Brazilian team Cruzeiro. That
decision hasn’t exactly paid off either, as
Cifuentes has had trouble getting into the
Brazilian first squad. According to reports,
Cifuentes is almost certain to relocate to Aris,
Greece, but certain specifics still need to be
worked out. According to Greek publication
MetroSport, Cifuentes to Aris is currently “on
hold” while “some details must be arranged”
between Cruzeiro and Rangers. Rangers must
bargain to break the present contract that will
keep Cifuentes in Brazil until December 2024 and
send him to Aris. It is said that the 25-year-old is
practicing by himself in Brazil while he waits for
news, as Rangers are scheduled to speak with
Cruzeiro this week. With Cifuentes in limbo, all
parties will be hoping that the deal accelerates in
the coming days. With Cifuentes still in the
picture, everyone sides will be hoping that the
trade moves more quickly in the coming days.
