JUST IN: Rangers star player ‘available’ for return might lead to rumors of a favorite Liverpool reunion

The former chairman of Rangers, Dave King, is amenable to returning to Ibrox, which has fueled rumors about a

possible return for Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool star who is currently leading Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League.

The 44-year-old enjoyed a cordial relationship with King during their time in Glasgow together, joining the Scottish

giants in 2018 and spending three years there. The former star of Liverpool, who hung up his boots in 2016, won

64.8% of matches while playing for Rangers. Aston Villa tried to sign him away in 2021,

but the deal fell through.

Rangers key figure return could spark Liverpool favourite reunion speculation

King has told TalkSPORT (as per BBC Sport): “I just hope John (Gilligan) is well because I don’t know how tough it

is being chairman at Rangers at any time. But having seen John stepping down, under normal circumstances I would

expect someone from the board to step up.

“And when I heard that the board have decided to go outside and get a head hunter and try and get a chairman, a

CEO – the job at Rangers is very, very different from chairing a public company. Right now the club is in crisis, the

extent of it I don’t know, only those inside do know. But certainly the operational

issues within Rangers are a challenge.

“During Douglas’ rule, many of the policies, procedures, and processes that were in place when I resigned were

undermined. And I reasoned that, since I’m the biggest shareholder, maybe I could step up temporarily if no one else

did and we had to go to an outside city-type appointment, which I’m positive will not advance the club. I have

therefore announced something. I’m free to carry that out. Something needs to happen rather soon, in my opinion.

The club is lacking in leadership in every area.”

Even though King wanted Gerrard back at Rangers, he isn’t accessible at the moment.

In Saudi Arabia, his Al-Ettifaq team is now ranked third.
