The showdown between blue bloods Kansas Jayhawks and Duke Blue Devils was, as expected, a thrilling one.
It also got physical in the second half when Jayhawks star big man Hunter Dickinson and Duke forward Maliq Brown got into it during a rebound play. After forcing Dickinson to miss a shot from the shaded area, Brown appeared to back into Dickinson causing the two players to fall down to the floor.
Dickinson was also caught kicking Brown in the head, leading to a flagrant-2 foul, which warranted an immediate ejection from the game.
However, Kansas head coach Bill Self doesn’t agree with the decision to throw Dickinson out of the contest by virtue of a flagrant-2 foul.
“I didn’t think at the moment and nor now do I feel it a warranted a level-2,” Self said after the game, per Mark Anderson of the Associated Press. “In my opinion, it’s probably a coin flip whether it’s a level-1 or a level-2.”
se, the Jayhawks weathered Dickinson’s absence and proceeded to score a 75-72 win against the Blue Devils. Before he exited the game, Dickinson had scored 11 points grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded two steals in 24 minutes of action.
Kansas improved to 6-0 to start the 2024-25 college basketball season while Duke dropped to 4-2.
Up next for the Jayhawks is a home game in Lawrence versus the Furman Paladins this coming Saturday.
