Rangers to confirm ‘Shock’ exit this morning after ‘Major Downsizing’ – report
As the latest high-profile departure at
Ibrox, UK Rangers are expected to
confirm the “shock exit” of Creag
Robertson on Wednesday morning (9
October), according to the Scottish Sun.
The paper’s website states that on
October 8, the club will make the
Director of Football Operations’
departure official early in the morning
after his decision to leave emerged.
Robertson only moved into the role in
June 2023 and it appears he does not
have a specified job to leave for as he is
reportedly “now pursuing other
opportunities”. He is said to have had a
“challenging” year at Ibrox after
“overseeing a major downsizing across all departments”
Rangers lose another after John Bennett and James Bisgrove
There may not be a huge
disappointment among the fanbase at
Robertson’s exit in itself [Heart & Hand,
8 October] but it adds to an unedifying pattern at Ibrox.
With so many players coming and going
from crucial positions in recent seasons,
the club has come to be synonymous
with dysfunction. The club is left to pick
up the pieces when an exit occurs, be it
an unfortunate and unavoidable one
(like in the case of John Bennett, who
had to step down as chairman last
month due to health issues) or one that
appears to be made in response to a
better opportunity (like in the case of
CEO James Bisgrove’s abrupt departure
to the Saudi Pro League in April).
The team’s fortunes have been most
obviously impacted by the cycle of
hiring and firing managers. Prior to the
season, the team decided to support
Philippe Clement despite the team’s poor
performance, realizing the damage done
by three new managers in as many
seasons: Giovanni van Bronckhorst,
Michael Beale, and Clement [The Herald, 27 July].
