Detroit Lions Could Look to Old Rival Kicker After Michael Badgley Injury

After winning their division last season for the first time since the early 1990s, the Detroit Lions are aiming to hold

their position atop the NFC North. It is hard to imagine Detroit not being an even more formidable club in 2024 after

making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game. After gaining a year of experience, their youthful stars, Jared

Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown, rose to the top of their respective positions’ pay scales.

Regretfully, there was a little setback for the Lions during training camp. NFL insider Ari Meriov reports that kicker

Michael Badgley was hurt badly on Thursday while getting ready for practice.

During his four appearances with the Lions in the previous season, Badgley made all four of his field goal attempts

and went 13/15 on his extra point attempts.

Just two kickers, Badgley and Jake Bates, who was cut by the Green Bay Packers earlier in the offseason, were in

training camp for the Lions. On their depth chart, Badgley was designated as Detroit’s starting kicker, suggesting

that he was the front-runner for the position.Badgley was released by the Chicago Bears in 2022, and he joined on

with the practice squad of the Lions. He made 20 of his 24 field goal attempts (83.3%) and all 33 of his extra point

attempts in 12 games for Detroit in 2022.

The Detroit Lions Could Give Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby a Look

Even though training camp has started, many kickers are still seeking employment, or the opportunity to obtain

employment. Former Packers kicker Mason Crosby is one of these.

The decision was reached by Green Bay to not re-sign Crosby, the franchise’s all-time top scorer, after the 2022

season. Rather, they selected Anders Carlson, a 2023 sixth-round pick who experienced a difficult rookie

season.Crosby waited for opportunities for the majority of the season and eventually received a few towards the close

of the campaign. Despite being added to the Los Angeles Rams practice squad, he never played for the team. The

New York Giants acquired him after the Rams released him.
