After spending nearly a week in Oxnard, the

Dallas Cowboys have wrapped off four training

camp sessions. Everything has taken off. The

current situation has been maintained for the

most part, but it is hard to feel completely

satisfied when the team’s best wide receiver is

absent and unaccounted for. CeeDee Lamb is

waiting it out and will be fined for the days he

doesn’t show up. Notably, the team has the option

to waive these fines while Lamb is still on his

rookie contract if and when they decide to

negotiate a contract extension. However, that is

still up in the air. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network

talked about the Lamb situation on Sunday,

pointing out that all parties are moving forward

and are in “a better place’ at the moment, but

also noted that they are ‘not close. “They’re in a

slightly better situation than they were a few

days or weeks ago, at the very least, I would say.

Not quite there. Though there hasn’t been much

development, I wouldn’t characterise this as a

close bargain. There is at least some optimism

that the Cowboys will eventually sign CeeDee

Lamb. Although it doesn’t appear like he will

defeat Justin Jefferson, I wouldn’t be shocked if

he came very close. Although it does not appear

that Lamb will quite match Justin Jefferson’s

contract, Rapoport points out that he might get

very close. The following serves as a reminder of

the crucial elements of Jefferson’s contract with

the Minnesota Vikings:

four-year prolongation $140 million

total transaction Due at signing: $88.743 million

If it wasn’t clear, Jefferson is the highest-paid

non-quarterback in the NFL right now (and in

NFL history, if that wasn’t clear enough). Stephen

Jones has made several mentions thus far in

camp regarding the Cowboys’ two roster

members, Micah Parsons and Lamb, who could/

may/might contend for this distinction. Despite

being eligible for an extension, Parsons is a year

behind Lamb contractually and is currently at

camp. It is also unclear how near Lamb may go

to any of these figures, but considering that he is

holding out he seems to have a preference or two

that is currently not being met on the Cowboys

side of things.
