Cowboys confirm DE Sam Williams tore his ACL, MCL
The Cowboys’ worst dread was validated by an
MRI: defensive end Sam Williams’ season is over.
Williams suffered an ACL and MCL tear in his
left knee during Sunday’s practice, according to
the team. To fix the injury, he will have surgery
at the end of the season. During their first full
padded exercise of the camp, the Cowboys
suffered their first major injury. Williams was
anticipated to contribute behind Micah Parsons
and DeMarcus Lawrence, so this is a difficult
break for both the Cowboys and Williams. In his
first two years combined, Williams accumulated
8.5 sacks. The Cowboys relied on Williams to step
up and decided not to re-sign Dante Fowler or
Dorance Armstrong. They selected Marshawn
Kneeland with a second-round pick as well.
Junior Fehoko and Durrell Johnson now have
even greater opportunities.
