Caitlin Clark Makes Her Stance On New Nickname Extremely Clear

Sports photographer Bri Lewerke posted several photos of Indiana Fever players Caitlin Clark, Lexie Hull, and Katie Lou Samuelson on social media. The caption read, “Just a few mermaids,” describing the WNBA trio.

Their “mermaid” nickname stems from a recent video where Clark and Hull were hanging out with their Fever teammates at a pool in Phoenix, Arizona.

They were evidently playing a game called “mermaids” in the pool, and WNBA fans stamped the nickname on the duo.

The video of their pool hangout came just before the Fever knocked off the Mercury in an 88-82 victory on June 30.

With Lou Samuelson joining the mermaid trio, Clark responded to Lewerke’s post, sharing her thoughts on the nickname, as well as her teammates.

“my favs!” Clark replied in the comment section.

These three players seem to be enjoying their vacation together during the WNBA’s break in the season for the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the Fever will return to the hardwood in just a few weeks.

Indiana is set to face the Phoenix Mercury on Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET for their first game back.

Hull and Lou Samuelson have been in and out of the starting lineup throughout the 2024 WNBA season. Through the Fever’s 11-15 schedule, Hull has started one game for Indiana, while Lou Samuelson has earned 11 starts.

They’ve been quality contributors for the Fever, but most of the responsibility on both ends of the floor lies in the hands of Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell.

Lou Samuelson has averaged 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, and Hull has posted 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

The ultimate mermaid, Caitlin Clark, leads the Fever, averaging 17.1 points and 8.2 assists per game.
