Cowboys Trade Suggestion Brings Bears RB to Dallas on “Rental” Basis
Cowboys Trade Suggestion Brings Bears RB to Dallas on “Rental” Basis
raining camp is in full swing for the Dallas
Cowboys, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t
still make an important addition at running back.
While Dallas does have several options already,
Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert has appeared as
a potential way to improve the group.
Writer Dan Rogers of Blogging the Boys
examined a number of RBs that Dallas might go
after on July 28. Given that he is now ranked
third on the Bears’ depth chart, the 26-year-old
may be traded. After David Montgomery left the
team last year, Herbert was supposed to be the
workhorse, but he continued in a part-time
capacity. Given that he is the Bears’ third running
back this season, his role may be reduced.
Chicago acquired D’Andre Swift, a free agent, and
Roschon Johnson, a back in his second season.
Herbert is in the final year of his rookie contract,
so any trade would probably just result in a one-
year rental. Nevertheless, given that he just
finished one season after leading all running
backs in yards per carry with 5.7, he wouldn’t be
a bad late-round selection pick be a bad
investment,” Rogers wrote.
He may not be a superstar, but he has proven
that he can add energy to an NFL offense like the
cowboys
Herbert Begins NFL Career with Bears
After his college career at Kansas and Virginia
Tech, Herbert was drafted by Chicago in the sixth
round of the 2021 NFL draft. Herbert did not
arrive to massive expectations, but quickly gave
Bears fans a reason for optimism. Pro Football
Reference reports that Herbert finished 2021
with 433 running yards. As a rookie, he averaged
4.2 yards per rush and scored two touchdowns.
The RB set himself up for a huge second season
even though those numbers don’t jump off the
page. Herbert gained 731 running yards and four
touchdowns in 2022. The former Jayhawk only
made one start for Chicago but averaged an
incredible 5.7 yards per rush. In 2023, Herbert
did experience some regression, finishing with
611 running yards and 2 touchdowns in 12
games. Even though his average carry decreased
to 4.6 yards per touch, he was still producing a
good amount.
Cowboys RB Speaks on CeeDee Lamb Holdout
The Cowboys need to resolve CeeDee Lamb’s
predicament before they can think about adding
a running back. The best receiver in Dallas is not
participating in training camp while he searches
for a new deal. Cowboys running back Ezekiel
Elliott is maintaining his composure despite the
fact that nothing is perfect for anybody
concerned. According to ESPN reporter Todd
Archer, Elliott stated on July 26 that “it’s really
tough because you go through your first three or
four years and you guys are on the same side,
and this is the first time that now you’re kind of
going against each other.” It seems that you need
to be a little thick-skinned. Though there are a
few tiny extras that come with it, ultimately
we’re all have the same goal.”
