Micah Parsons calls out Cowboys teammate: ‘Either you will or you won’t’
Mazi Smith, a defensive tackle selected 26th
overall by the Dallas Cowboys last season, was
expected to be a wrecking ball in the centre of
the defence. However, Smith’s first year was far
from stellar, and if the Dallas defence hopes to
stay in the top five, Smith will need to improve
significantly in Year 2. Regarding his hopes for
the 23-year-old lineman, Cowboys standout edge
rusher Micah Parsons recently told reporters just
that Parsons was even seen getting in Smith’s
ear about needing to step it up during the team’s
first padded practice on Tuesday.
Smith didn’t do much last season despite playing
in 17 games. According to Pro Football Focus, he
only had 13 tackles, 8 pressures, 5 hurries, 3
tackles for loss, and 1 sack. In terms of pressures
and pass-rush win rate, he was tenth among
defensive lineman. He was more of a rotating
depth player than a true difference-maker,
which Parsons believes won’t be viable in 2024.
