Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher agrees to join Atletico Madrid

Chelsea are set to lose Conor Gallagher as the 24-year-old has agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid.

According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, the England international has said ‘yes’ to join the La Liga giants and will pen a five-year contract with them.

Chelsea agreed to sell Gallagher for a fee around £33 million but the player initially showed some reluctance to leave his boyhood club.

The midfielder was a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team last season as he featured in 50 matches across all competitions and made 16 goal contributions.

But with his contract expiring in 2025, the Blues didn’t want to risk losing him for free next year.

They wanted to resolve the situation quickly and now it appears Gallagher is now on the verge of completing a move to Atletico.

Since the 24-year-old is a homegrown talent, his sale would represent pure profit for the West Londoners.

Enzo Maresca’s side are also looking to offload Armando Broja as they aim to bring in a top-quality striker.

The 22-year-old has failed to establish himself in the Blues’ first-team since making his professional debut in 2020.

Serie A giants Juventus have been credited with an interest in Broja but it remains to be seen whether they come up with a concrete offer for the centre-forward.

Chelsea are keen to sign Victor Osimhen but face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool.
