Top 5 prospects to surpass Calvin Johnson’s record for receiving yards in 2024
A few players have attempted to surpass Calvin Johnson’s 1,964 receiving yards from 2012, but have been unable to do so. Some have started the season on track to reach it or surpass it, but they faltered towards the end.
It will only be a matter of time until Johnson’s record is broken, since there will be a 17th regular season game in 2021 and what seems like a likely addition of another regular season game. “Megatron” understands his record will eventually be surpassed, according to an interview he had at a recent golf event with Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press (subscription needed).
Somebody would need to average 115.6 yards per game throughout a 17-game season in order to reach 1,965 yards and shatter Johnson’s record. Naturally, any extremely difficult games or missing games would make it more difficult to complete.
