The greatest announcement was made directly at the start of the Philadelphia Phillies’ end-of-year press conference, which took place at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday morning. By announcing Rob Thomson’s agreement until 2026, baseball operations president Dave Dombrowski quickly allayed any concerns regarding his manager’s future with the team.

Initially, Thomson’s contract was extended through the 2025 campaign.

during the Winter Meetings last year, but after the Phillies’ heartbreaking NLDS elimination, concerns regarding his future were unavoidably voiced.
Despite the season ending early, Dombrowski gave an explanation of the team’s decision to prolong Thomson.”He’s done a good job for us, he’s a very successful manager,” Dombrowski remarked of Thomson.

“Very few baseball teams have advanced to the postseason three times in a row. I think stability in the manager’s spot, I don’t think going into the
manager’s last year is ever a good situation to be in if you can prevent that from happening. In that sense, he merits the extension.
Since taking over for the dismissed Joe Girardi in June 2022, Thomson has been the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Thomson had intended to retire at the end of that season prior to accepting the position, but a World Series trip persuaded him to remain the Phillies’ bench manager.

Thomson is currently taking his career as an MLB manager one year at a time, following a trip to the NLCS in 2023 and his elimination in the NLDS this season.

It’s okay with me year after year. I’ve said it a lot: “This is my final destination and the only place I want to be,” Thomson remarked.
