Elite 2027 QB Brady Edmunds commits to Ohio State: ‘It’s a quarterback’s dream to be there

Huntington Beach (Calif.) four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds set multiple goals for himself in sixth grade that were listed on the screensaver of his phone. They included starting on the varsity team as a freshman and receiving offers by his freshman year. The last piece of his vision was committing to Ohio State.

Edmunds was well-aware of the Buckeyes for a long time, as he and his family were “die-hard Ohio State fans” and his grandfather grew up in the Buckeye State. He fondly remembers watching Ohio State’s national championship victory in 2015 alongside his grandpa, cousins and uncle at a Dave & Buster’s.

As Edmunds became a talented player under center and broke his high school’s career passing yards record as a sophomore, the Buckeyes began recruiting the 6-foot-5, 205-pound signal-caller and eventually offered him on June 6. Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Texas made the top four for Edmunds in September, but the Buckeyes continued to separate themselves.

Head coach Ryan Day and his staff’s efforts paid off, as Edmunds has committed to Ohio State.

“The family connection that I have to Ohio helped Ohio State stand out to me,” Edmunds told On3. “Then, the culture of Ohio State football, coach Day and coach Chip Kelly played important roles in my decision. They have the best receiving corps in the nation, so it’s a quarterback’s dream to be there right now. I think there’s no better option for me.”

Edmunds is excited to play in Ohio State’s high-powered offense

Edmunds was very excited to get an offer from Ohio State and since then, his strong feeling about the Buckeyes never wavered. It did not take him long to realize that Columbus was the place where he wanted to be for his college football career.

Having the chance to play for Day greatly excites Edmunds. The No. 4 player in California is also looking forward to learning from Kelly, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

“With the play-calling abilities that coach Day has, it’s nice to have an offensive-minded head coach,” said Edmunds, the No. 16 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback in the 2027 On300. “There are some coaches that don’t understand the quarterback position as well. They’ll get on you for certain things, but they don’t understand it as well as other coaches. I feel like coach Day understands it.

“Then, Coach Kelly is there too and he is another guy that understands the quarterback position. Coach Riley Larkin and Coach Billy Fessler work under them and with the quarterbacks. There’s a reason why they have such a good quarterback room right now and I think it starts with coach Day.”
