On Monday, the junior linebacker announced via X (formerly Twitter) that he is entering the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
Powers is a product of Marysville, Ohio, who was a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
In three years with the Buckeyes, Powers collected 12 tackles. After appearing in 13 games last season, he played in all 12 games this year — though primarily on special teams.
Powers’ top highlight came in the season opener against Akron. With the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, he intercepted a pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown.
Powers is the first Buckeye to enter the portal since the regular season concluded with a loss vs. Michigan on Saturday. His announcement comes as Ohio State prepares for its season to continue, though.
The Buckeyes are expected to make the 12-team College Football Playoff.
