The Kentucky Wildcats took one on the chin in Tuesday’s loss to the Clemson Tigers. While a number of things went wrong for the Cats, the biggest concern came when Lamont Butler went out of the game with an ankle injury.
Thankfully, Butler later returned, but it’s clear that the ankle is still bothering him, putting his status for Saturday’s game vs. Gonzaga in question.
During his Thursday press conference, head coach Mark Pope gave a brief injury update on his star point guard, saying he’s hopeful they’ll get Butler back for Saturday vs. the Zags.
While Kerr Kriisa would be the starting point guard if Butler is out, Pope said that he believes Travis Perry can step up and play significant minutes as well.
“I have a lot of confidence in Travis Perry. He’d definitely be a viable option for sure,” said Pope.
Even so, Kentucky desperately needs a healthy Butler back to have any hope of winning Saturday in what’s effectively a road game being played in Seattle.
