Randy Shannon’s tenure at Florida State football has concluded. After five seasons as the linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator under head coach Mike Norvell, Shannon will not be retained as part of the changes to the coaching staff.
Shannon stepped in as the interim defensive coordinator after Norvell made the decision to part ways with Adam Fuller. Throughout this period, he continued to fulfill his responsibilities as the linebackers coach.
FSU finished the season 2-10.
Shannon has been coaching for 33 years, most of them as an assistant and head coach at the University of Miami. He also spent three seasons as an assistant coach and linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins from 1998 to 2000
Some notable players Shannon has developed were the linebacker duo Tatum Bethune and Kalen DeLoach, who were part of last year’s 13-1 season, and DJ Lundy, an All-ACC linebacker who suffered an injury earlier this year.
In the last year, he has been working with a young linebacking core that includes Omar Graham Jr., Blake Nichelson, and Justin Cryer. Cryer was injured after theNorth Carolina game.
