Tennessee’s standout running back, Jabari Small, has been named USA Today’s SEC Player of the Year, following an exceptional 2024 season that showcased his dominance on the field. Small, a junior from Memphis, has been a key driver in the Volunteers’ potent offense, leading the team in rushing yards, touchdowns, and big plays.
Small’s 2024 campaign was nothing short of spectacular, as he rushed for over 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns. His vision, agility, and ability to break tackles helped propel Tennessee to a top-tier finish in the Southeastern Conference, with the Volunteers being serious contenders for the College Football Playoff. Small’s remarkable performance in pivotal SEC matchups, including a 200-yard game against Alabama and a game-winning touchdown against Georgia, earned him widespread recognition across the league.
In addition to his rushing stats, Small proved himself as a versatile weapon in the passing game, hauling in several key receptions out of the backfield. His ability to contribute in multiple areas of the game made him an invaluable asset to Tennessee’s offense.
His selection as the SEC Player of the Year adds to the long list of accolades he’s received this season, which includes All-SEC First-Team honors and a spot as a finalist for the prestigious Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s best running back.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel praised Small’s work ethic and leadership throughout the season. “Jabari’s determination and commitment to the team have been nothing short of inspiring,” Heupel said. “He’s earned every bit of recognition and continues to set a standard for excellence on and off the field.”
Small’s success this season has solidified his place as one of the SEC’s elite players and a potential high draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
