The Ohio State fanbase holds its program to some high standards. So despite the Buckeyes’ 10-2 record and No. 5 position in the College Football Playoff rankings, there are some who are calling for the job of head coach Ryan Day.
For the fourth year in a row, Day and his Ohio State team fell to the Michigan Wolverines in The Game. Despite entering this year’s Big Ten rivalry contest as a 19.5-point favorite, the Buckeyes fell to the visiting Wolverines with a 13-10 final score at Ohio Stadium.
While some Ohio State faithful want Day fired, others are confident in his leadership.
During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, legendary Buckeyes running back Maurice Clarett expressed his confidence in Day heading into the College Football Playoff.
“I just sat here and watched, in the last 30 days, Ryan Day literally went out here and beat two top-5 teams. So he’s not a horrible coach. He’s not a horrible person…
We live in a vacuum right now where it’s ‘What have you done for me lately?’ “I don’t think it’s fair to those guys and I think sometimes our fanbase can become a distraction to the players.”
After the Michigan loss, Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork announced the decision to stick with Day as the program’s head coach moving forward.
“It’s 100% the right decision,” Clarett said.
With its loss to Michigan, Ohio State was booted from the Big Ten Championship Game. Now, Day and the Buckeyes will turn their attention toward a likely first-round home playoff game at The Shoe.
