Boo Carter was one of the top overall prospects out of the state of Tennessee for the 2024 recruiting class. Now, after an impressive freshman campaign for Josh Heupel and the Vols, Carter has confirmed he will be back with the program in 2025.
On Friday, speculation that Carter was mulling potential transfer options surfaced, but he put those to bed Friday evening. He shared a graphic with the phrase “Home sweet home, to me,” a reference to Rocky Top along with Volunteer Club branding.
The Volunteer Club is a prominent NIL organization for Tennessee, signaling that a new NIL deal may have been included in Carter’s decision to return. Regardless of the background to the decision, keeping Carter in Knoxville is a major win for Tennessee.
As a true freshman, Carter registered 38 total tackles, 3 TFLs, a sack and an interception. His first career pick came against Mississippi State while his breakout performance included 7 tackles, 1.5 TFL and a sack against Florida.
In addition to his work in the defensive backfield, Carter showcased impressive potential in the punt return game late in the season. He finished the year 198 yards on 12 returns for a 16.5-yard average.
