The Florida Gators extended their winning streak against Georgia to 12 games, the longest in the series’ history and tied for Florida’s second-longest streak against any SEC opponent (14 vs. Tennessee from 1991-98; 12 vs. Mississippi State from 1984-89).
The first half of this streak occurred under former head coach Mike White, while the latest six wins have come under Todd Golden’s leadership.
After the game, head coach Todd Golden, along with players Alex Condon, Thomas Haugh, and Alijah Martin, addressed the media to discuss their victory.
Head Coach Todd Golden’s Opening Remarks:
“I’m incredibly proud of our players and staff. They did a fantastic job preparing for this game. Georgia is a very strong team, and they nearly defeated a top-25 Auburn team at home last week.
What I’m most pleased with is the mentality and effort we brought to the game, similar to our performance last Saturday against Texas.
We’re emphasizing to our team that if we maintain this elite mentality and high energy in every game—especially at home—we’ll be very difficult to beat. Of course, we need to replicate this effort on the road, but when we face quality teams on our home court, we must capitalize on those opportunities, and I believe we did that today.””He’s an exceptional player who plays with great pace and patience. While I wouldn’t say the game is easy for him, it does seem to come naturally in some ways.
He has the ability to see things on the court that others don’t and knows how to get to his spots effectively. His poise was outstanding today, and his overall performance was impressive—five assists and just one turnover. He even passed up a few shots to create scoring opportunities for his teammates, turning them into two-point field goals.
He’s in the All-American conversation for a reason and absolutely deserves to be there. He’s one of the best guards in the country and continues to step up for us in critical moments.
“I think our defense really set the tone in the first half. Our activity on that end of the floor led to some great transition opportunities, which helped us build momentum. The energy in the building was incredible.
Before I go on, I want to give a huge shoutout to our fans. The support during these weekend games has been phenomenal, and it creates such a strong home-court advantage for us.
You can feel the energy in the arena right before tip-off, and it’s made a huge impact on our team.
Back to the defense—we recorded 20 deflections in the first half, which is a number we haven’t reached in a long time. Georgia had 14 turnovers in that stretch, and our defensive activity really allowed us to take control of the game.
It was a complete team effort, and it showed in how we were able to break the game open early.”
