After a hectic offseason that saw right-hander Jack Flaherty without a home, he’s finally inked a deal with a new team. The former Los Angeles Dodgers ace was traded to the
Dodgers by the Detroit Tigers during the deadline a season ago. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Flaherty will be headed back to the Tigers on a two-year, $35 million deal. “Right-hander Jack Flaherty and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a two-year, $35 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, sources tell ESPN,” Passan
Flaherty took a one-year deal with Detroit a winter ago and will essentially do the same this time around. The hope was for him to get $100 million in free agency. However, that wasn’t the case, and instead, he’s agreed to a rather cheap deal. There were concerns about Flaherty’s medicals during the deadline last year. The New York Yankees passed on him, but Los Angeles was willing to give him a try.
It paid off for the Dodgers in the end. According to a source familiar with the situation, Flaherty was interested in staying with the Tigers last year had they decided to keep him at the deadline. It worked out for the California native, as he won a World Series. However, he’ll return to a place he enjoyed and have a chance to help Detroit return to the postseason.
