5-Star RB Akylin Dear Decommits from Alabama, Commits to Tennessee

In a stunning turn of events, five-star running back Akylin Dear has decommitted from the University of Alabama and committed to the University of Tennessee. This decision marks a significant shift in the landscape of college football recruiting, as Dear’s commitment to the Crimson Tide had been a major talking point in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Akylin Dear, a dynamic and explosive back from North Carolina, had been one of the most coveted prospects in the nation. Known for his breakaway speed, vision, and balance, Dear is a perfect fit for a high-powered offense. His decommitment from Alabama surprised many, given the program’s pedigree of success and its continued dominance in recruiting under head coach Nick Saban.

However, in a statement released on social media, Dear explained his decision to decommit, citing a desire to play closer to home and an increased comfort level with the Tennessee coaching staff and program. The Volunteers have made significant strides in recruiting in recent years, and this commitment represents a major win for Josh Heupel and his staff. Tennessee’s high-octane offense, which has been a key part of their resurgence in the SEC, could provide the perfect stage for Dear to showcase his talents.

Dear had initially chosen Alabama for its elite coaching staff, championship pedigree, and the opportunity to develop under one of the nation’s top running back coaches. However, after visiting Knoxville and spending more time with Tennessee’s staff and players, Dear’s decision began to shift. The Volunteers have made it clear that they want to build a program centered around elite playmakers, and Dear fits that mold perfectly.

For Tennessee, landing Dear is a huge coup. The Volunteers have steadily climbed the recruiting rankings, and securing a commitment from one of the nation’s top running backs further solidifies their status as an emerging powerhouse in the SEC. With Dear in the fold, Tennessee’s offense is poised to become even more dynamic, as he brings a unique combination of speed, agility, and vision to a backfield that already boasts a strong talent base.

This commitment could be the start of a wave of momentum for the Volunteers, as they continue to build on their recent successes and challenge the established powers in the conference.
