Cowboys DE Sam Williams feared to have torn ACL in practice
The Dallas Cowboys defence was probably taken
hard during Sunday’s training camp drills.
defensive end According to reports from NFL
Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom
Pelissero, Sam Williams is suspected of tearing
his ACL during practice. Williams is probably out
for the 2024 season, but he is still awaiting
confirmation from an MRI. NFL Network’s Jane
Slater and Rapoport report that Williams was
involved in a block during a special teams drill
before tripping and holding his left knee. After
that, he was taken off the pitch. Williams was
scheduled to start his third NFL season. The
Cowboys selected him in the second round in
2022. Williams was expected to be an important
part of the pass-rush rotation for the Cowboys,
who are led on the edges by Micah Parsons and
Demarcus Lawrence. The 25-year-old has
participated in 32 games over the course of two
seasons, coming off the bench to deliver plenty of
punch with 8.5 career sacks, 16 QB hits, 15
tackles for loss, and 48 stops. The Cowboys’
offseason and training camp debut have been
marred by off-field turmoil thus far, including
Dak Prescott’s final season under contract and
CeeDee Lamb’s holdout. Sadly, Williams’ injury
has left the Cowboys with a much more
challenging on-field problem to solve.
