Clemson defensive back Sherrod Covic jr enter transfer portal Coach Comfirmed

Clemson junior safety Sherrod Covil Jr. has decided to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Monday, according to a report from On3 Sports.

Covil, a former four-star recruit from Virginia, has played in 32 games during his career with the Tigers. Despite seeing significant action early in the season, his playing time declined over the course of the year, and he did not play a snap in Clemson’s recent game against South Carolina.

Covil started his first career game this season against Florida State, but his involvement diminished later, with just 15 defensive snaps over the final six games.

For the season, Covil has recorded 36 tackles (22 solo), one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection. He had a total of 123 defensive snaps this year, but his reduced role has led him to seek a new opportunity through the transfer portal.

At 5-11 and 200 pounds, Covil is the second Clemson player to announce a transfer, following redshirt junior receiver Troy Stellato, who also revealed his intention to leave the program earlier this week.

Stellato did not travel with the team for the ACC Championship game against SMU, and it is unclear whether Covil will be with the team for their bowl game or if he has already parted ways.

Covil, who was ranked as the nation’s No. 205 overall recruit coming out of high school in 2022, has one remaining year of eligibility. He has not redshirted at Clemson, and his decision to enter the transfer portal marks a significant step in his collegiate career as he looks for a program where he can contribute more regularly.
