As defensive line coach William Green will be the Mountaineers’ defensive line coach, new WVU football coach Rich Rodriguez is continuing to bring assistant coaches from his Jacksonville State staff, according to a report by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports/247Sports.
In 2021, Green and Rodriguez joined Louisiana Monroe as staff members. In 2022, Rodriguez welcomed Green to Jacksonville State. Green had previously been the Gamecocks’ defensive line coach from 2017 to 2020, therefore this was his second time with the team. In 2016, Green, who was a Florida Gator while playing, started working as a graduate assistant at his alma institution as a coach.

Rodriguez reportedly hired Green as his first defensive coach at WVU. Rodriguez is expected to keep offensive coordinator/running backs coach Chad Scott and tight ends coach Blaine Stewart on the offensive line. According to reports, Rodriguez is also bringing in offensive assistants Michael Nysewander and Ryan Garrett from Jacksonville State. Rodriguez is reportedly joining Green as the third assistant from Jacksonville State on the new WVU football staff.
Rodriguez stated that a defensive coordinator, who has not yet been named, would be his first employee after being hired.
