Dre’Lyn Washington confirmed his decision to transfer to Alabama on Monday.
Former Louisiana running back Dre’lyn Washington committed to Alabama out of the NCAA transfer portal. On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported the news.
This past season, Washington ran for 478 yards, five touchdowns and 6.5 yards per carry. He added six catches for 107 yards and a touchdown reception.
Over the course of four seasons with Louisiana, Washington has 229 carries for 1,343 yards, nine touchdowns and 5.9 yards per carry. He also has 14 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
As a member of the Class of 2021, Washington was a three-star recruit out of Hemphill (Texas) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 245 overall prospect in the state, the No. 119 running back in the class and the No. 1,562 overall prospect in the class.
With Washington in the fold, Alabama gets an explosive piece to the offense for 2025. There will be questions about head coach Kalen DeBoer going into Year 2, since it ended with a dud against Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
“Every time you’re in the locker room and you have something like this, it’s disappointing,” DeBoer said postgame. “But I think there’s a lot of things that you take from it. I know that the guys that hung in there, that probably played their last game in the crimson and white, they wouldn’t have had it any other way as far as to show the grit, show the determination, show the competitiveness. They stayed the course.
“There’s a whole lot more, I just think, that really goes into the last 12 months. People see what happens on a Saturday, but it’s guys choosing to stay here, guys choosing to go from one week to the next when you’re on a little bit of a roller coaster through the middle of the season, and as long as we learn from it, then to me, then it can be a success moving forward.”
