The 2024-2025 college football season wrapped up with the Ohio State Buckeyes claiming the national championship. For the Georgia Bulldogs, the season ended on a bittersweet note. While they secured the SEC title in a grueling regular season, their campaign concluded with a disappointing loss in the College Football Playoff (CFP) quarterfinals. Now, their attention turns to preparing for another championship run.
Despite their success, Georgia faced notable struggles in 2024. The Bulldogs led the nation in dropped passes, their offensive line lacked consistency, and their defense occasionally faltered with tackling—uncharacteristic issues for a team led by head coach Kirby Smart.
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach released his way-too-early top 25 rankings for 2025, placing Georgia at No. 5. His advice for the team moving forward is straightforward: focus on fundamentals.
“The Bulldogs seemed a bit disjointed throughout much of the 2024 season, but they still won an SEC championship and reached the CFP for the fourth time in eight seasons,” Schlabach noted. “Stockton performed well in his first start, a 23-10 loss to Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinals, and he enters the offseason as the favorite to replace Beck, who departed for Miami. Georgia must improve in key areas—blocking, catching, and tackling. It’s time for Kirby Smart to return to the basics.”
To address these concerns, Georgia has been active in the transfer portal, adding wide receivers Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas, along with safeties Zion Branch, Adrian Maddox, and Jaden Harris. The Bulldogs also landed a strong group of receivers in their 2025 recruiting class.
With these new additions and a commitment to offseason improvements, Georgia aims to fine-tune its performance and position itself for another shot at the national championship.
